Casteller
About the wine
Casteller is a traditional red wine from the Trentino region, named after a historic hillside near Trento. This DOC is defined by a blend dominated by Merlot, which must constitute at least 50% of the composition. The remaining portion is comprised of indigenous and regional varieties, including Schiava (Grossa and Gentile), Lambrusco a foglia frastagliata (Enantio), Lagrein, and Teroldego. The resulting wine is typically ruby red in color, characterized by a vinous, pleasant aroma and a dry, harmonious palate. It reflects the diverse alpine and sub-Mediterranean microclimates of the Adige, Cembra, Sarca, and Lagarina valleys. The production is deeply rooted in local viticultural history, with the disciplinare emphasizing traditional pergola or vertical trellis training systems and a focus on maintaining balanced acidity and alcohol levels. It is a quintessential expression of Trentino's mountain viticulture, designed for immediate, approachable consumption.
