Trentino
About the wine
The Trentino DOC is a versatile and expansive appellation covering a wide array of wine styles produced within the autonomous province of Trento. This diverse region benefits from unique Alpine-Mediterranean climatic conditions, allowing for the successful cultivation of both international varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, and Cabernet, and indigenous specialties such as Nosiola, Marzemino, and Teroldego. The DOC is particularly noted for its high-quality white wines, which often display crisp acidity and aromatic complexity, and its structured reds. A standout of the region is the rare and prestigious 'Vino Santo', a passito wine crafted from late-harvested Nosiola grapes dried on traditional racks. The regulations permit a broad spectrum of varietal wines, blends, and 'Riserva' designations, ensuring that producers can highlight the specific terroir of the Adige Valley and its surrounding mountain slopes. The resulting wines are generally characterized by their elegance, freshness, and distinct varietal expression, reflecting the meticulous viticultural practices of the Trentino landscape.
