The Mitterberg IGT covers the entire administrative territory of the Province of Bolzano in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. This denomination is characterized by a diverse alpine landscape, protected to the north by the Alps and influenced by Mediterranean currents from the south. The region features a continental climate with significant diurnal temperature variations, which are ideal for developing aromatic complexity in grapes. The IGT allows for a wide range of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and passito styles. Producers utilize a vast array of both indigenous and international grape varieties, reflecting the heterogeneous microclimates of the South Tyrolean valleys. The disciplinare emphasizes high-quality viticulture, with specific yield limits and a focus on expressing the unique terroir of the various mountain slopes. Mitterberg serves as a flexible category for wines that may not fit the strict requirements of the local DOC denominations.
