Vallagarina
About the wine
The Vallagarina IGT covers a diverse viticultural area spanning the Adige Valley across the provinces of Trento and Verona. This region acts as a climatic transition zone between the Alps and the Mediterranean-influenced Prealps, significantly tempered by the 'Ora' breeze from nearby Lake Garda. The terrain ranges from alluvial valley floors to steep, terraced hillsides, often supported by dry-stone walls. The IGT is highly permissive, allowing for a wide array of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and spumante styles. Production is deeply rooted in local history, with viticulture serving as a vital economic and landscape-preserving activity. The disciplinare emphasizes the use of regional varietals, excluding specific grapes like Marzemino and Pinot Grigio in certain contexts, and mandates specific production methods for sparkling wines, such as autoclave fermentation for spumante.
