Allerona
About the wine
The Allerona IGT covers a specific area in the southwestern part of the Umbria region, encompassing the municipalities of Allerona, Castelviscardo, and Castelgiorgio in the province of Terni. The territory is characterized by steep, hilly terrain with Pliocene marine clay soils and a climate that balances warm summers with sufficient rainfall to support viticulture. The IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante, novello, and passito versions. The production is deeply rooted in the historical viticultural traditions of the Orvieto area, dating back to Etruscan and Roman times. The disciplinare is highly permissive regarding grape varieties, allowing any grape suitable for cultivation in the Umbria region, provided they are registered in the national vine variety registry. This flexibility allows producers to express the local terroir through various varietal combinations.
