Colli del Trasimeno
About the wine
The Colli del Trasimeno DOC, also known as Trasimeno, encompasses a diverse range of wines produced in the hills surrounding Lake Trasimeno in the province of Perugia, Umbria. This appellation is notable for its versatility, covering white, red, and rosato wines, as well as sparkling (metodo classico), frizzante, and the traditional Vin Santo. The white wines are typically based on Trebbiano and Grechetto, offering fresh and harmonious profiles, while the reds are anchored by Sangiovese, often blended with international varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the local Gamay (Trasimeno Gamay). The region's unique microclimate, influenced by the lake and the surrounding rolling hills, provides a distinct terroir that favors balanced, structured wines. The DOC also allows for varietal-specific labeling for Grechetto, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Gamay, providing a clear expression of these grapes within the Umbrian landscape. The production is strictly regulated to ensure quality, with specific aging requirements for Riserva typologies.
