Torgiano
About the wine
The Torgiano DOC, located in the heart of Umbria, is a historic appellation centered on the commune of Torgiano near the confluence of the Tiber and Chiascio rivers. The area is defined by its unique fluvio-lacustrine soils, remnants of the ancient 'Lago Tiberino,' which provide a diverse range of sandy and clay-rich substrates. The DOC is remarkably versatile, covering a wide spectrum of styles including whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines, and the traditional Vin Santo. The red wines, often based on Sangiovese, are known for their balance and structure, while the whites leverage varieties like Trebbiano Toscano and Chardonnay. The region boasts a deep viticultural history dating back to Roman times, further refined by medieval monastic influence. The wines are characterized by their regional typicity, with strict production standards ensuring quality across the diverse range of permitted styles, from crisp sparkling wines to the complex, long-aged Vin Santo.
