Bettona
About the wine
The Bettona IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) covers the administrative territory of the municipality of Bettona in the province of Perugia, Umbria. The production area is situated on the slopes of Monte Martano, between 200 and 500 meters above sea level, characterized by alluvial and clay-calcareous soils. The climate is temperate, benefiting from significant sun exposure during the summer, which aids in the optimal ripening of both indigenous and international grape varieties. The IGT allows for the production of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and novello styles. Historically, the region has blended traditional Italian varieties like Sangiovese, Trebbiano, and Grechetto with international grapes such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The disciplinare emphasizes modern viticultural practices, including high-density planting and specific phenolic maturity indices, to produce wines ranging from fresh, early-drinking styles to those suitable for aging in wood.
