Bivongi
About the wine
The Bivongi DOC, established in the province of Reggio Calabria and extending into the province of Catanzaro, represents a historic viticultural area rooted in the ancient traditions of Magna Graecia. The appellation covers a range of styles including red, white, rosato, novello, and a structured Riserva. The red wines are typically crafted from a blend of Gaglioppo, Greco Nero, Nocera, Calabrese, and Castiglione, resulting in wines that are dry, harmonious, and often fruity. The white wines rely on a blend of Greco Bianco, Guardavalle, Montonico Bianco, Malvasia Bianca, and Ansonica. The production zone is characterized by hilly and sub-hilly terrain along the Ionian coast and the Stilaro valley, where the combination of sandy, conglomerate soils and a Mediterranean climate creates a distinct terroir. Bivongi wines are known for their balanced structure and moderate alcohol, reflecting a long-standing local commitment to producing wines that pair elegantly with food rather than overpowering it.
