Terre di Cosenza
About the wine
Terre di Cosenza is a versatile DOC covering the entire province of Cosenza in Calabria. The appellation is defined by its diverse topography, ranging from coastal areas along the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas to the mountainous slopes of the Sila. The wines are characterized by a wide array of styles, including reds, whites, rosés, sparkling, passito, and late-harvest wines. The red wines are typically based on the indigenous Magliocco grape, which provides structure and complexity, while the whites rely on traditional varieties like Mantonico, Greco Bianco, and Pecorello. The DOC also permits the use of international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, reflecting the region's modern viticultural evolution. The wines are generally noted for their harmony and distinct regional character, with specific sub-zones (such as Pollino and Donnici) offering unique expressions of the local terroir.
