Colli Martani
About the wine
Colli Martani is a versatile Umbrian DOC encompassing a wide range of styles, from crisp whites and sparkling wines to structured reds and the unique, sweet Vernaccia di Cannara. Established in 1988, the appellation covers the slopes of the Martani Mountains, benefiting from a temperate climate and diverse soil compositions that favor both indigenous varieties like Grechetto and Sangiovese, and international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. The white wines are generally characterized by freshness and floral notes, while the reds—particularly the Riserva versions of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon—offer depth and aging potential. The DOC is notable for its commitment to preserving local traditions, such as the specific production of Vernaccia, a passito-style red wine, while simultaneously integrating modern viticultural practices to ensure consistent quality across its varied portfolio.
