Colli Perugini
About the wine
The Colli Perugini DOC, established in 1981, encompasses a diverse viticultural area in Umbria, spanning the hills around Perugia and extending into the province of Terni. The denomination is notable for its versatility, producing a wide range of styles including white, red, rosato, novello, spumante, and the traditional Vin Santo. White wines are primarily based on Trebbiano Toscano, often blended with Grechetto, while red wines are anchored by Sangiovese. The region's hilly terrain, characterized by varied geological formations—ranging from alluvial deposits to marly-arenaceous soils—provides excellent drainage and favorable conditions for vine cultivation. The wines are generally noted for their freshness and structural balance, with the reds displaying characteristic cherry and raspberry notes, and the whites offering delicate floral and mineral qualities. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional viticultural practices, excluding valley floors and high-altitude sites to ensure optimal ripening, resulting in wines that reflect the long-standing winemaking heritage of the Perugian hills.
