Lipuda
About the wine
The Lipuda IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) covers a specific area in the province of Crotone, Calabria, centered around the Lipuda river basin. This region, historically significant for viticulture since the time of Greek colonization, features a landscape of rolling hills descending from the Sila mountains toward the Ionian Sea. The climate is characterized by sub-humid to sub-arid conditions with significant summer water deficits, which, combined with diverse soil types—ranging from sandy and conglomeratic formations to clay-rich fluvial terraces—shapes the character of the wines. The IGT allows for the production of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and novello styles. These wines are produced using grape varieties authorized for cultivation in the Calabria region, reflecting the area's traditional viticultural practices. The denomination emphasizes the historical and cultural connection to the land, maintaining a link to the broader, ancient winemaking heritage of the Crotone territory.
