Narni
About the wine
The Narni IGT, established in 1995, covers a specific area in the province of Terni, southern Umbria. The production zone includes the entirety of the municipalities of Attigliano, Giove, and Penna in Teverina, along with parts of several others including Narni, Amelia, and Terni. The region is characterized by hilly terrain with diverse soil compositions, ranging from Pliocene marine clays to volcanic materials and travertine. The climate is generally favorable for viticulture, with good ventilation and light exposure. The IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, rosato, novello, and passito. While the disciplinare permits the use of any grape variety authorized for the Umbria region, it places significant historical and cultural emphasis on Ciliegiolo, which is the only variety specifically highlighted for potential labeling as a varietal wine. The production standards focus on traditional regional practices, emphasizing quality-oriented viticulture.
