About the wine

The Pellaro IGT covers red and rosato wines produced in the extreme southern tip of the Calabria region, specifically within the municipality of Motta San Giovanni and parts of Reggio Calabria. The area is characterized by a unique microclimate influenced by the Strait of Messina and varying altitudes ranging from sea level to approximately 700 meters. The soils are primarily of Miocene clay-arenaceous and Pliocene sandy origins, providing a diverse pedological environment. Historically, the region has been known for its traditional viticulture, including the use of the 'alberello' (bush vine) training system. The disciplinare permits the use of any black grape variety authorized for cultivation in the Calabria region, with a maximum of 15% white grape varieties allowed. The resulting wines are noted for their structural balance and regional character, reflecting the deep-rooted agricultural history of this coastal and hilly landscape.
