Scilla
About the wine
The Scilla IGT covers the territory of the municipality of Scilla in the province of Reggio Calabria. This area is defined by its dramatic, steep coastal topography, where viticulture is practiced on small, labor-intensive terraces supported by traditional dry-stone walls known as 'armacie'. The climate is Mediterranean, characterized by mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers, with significant influence from sea breezes. The IGT focuses on red and rosato wines, which are typically structured and sapid, reflecting the unique pedoclimatic conditions of the region. The disciplinare emphasizes the historical and cultural connection between the local growers and the difficult, rugged terrain. Production is limited to red (including novello) and rosato styles, utilizing grape varieties authorized for the Calabria region, with a maximum of 15% white grapes allowed in the blend.
