Todi
About the wine
The Todi DOC, located in the heart of Umbria, represents a distinct viticultural identity within the broader Colli Martani area. Centered around the historic town of Todi and its neighboring communes, the denomination focuses on the expression of local terroir through a selection of classic varietals. The white wines are defined by the Grechetto grape, which provides a characteristic structure and delicate fruit profile, while the red wines rely on Sangiovese and Merlot to deliver balanced, medium-bodied profiles. The DOC is particularly noted for its 'Grechetto di Todi' and 'Sangiovese di Todi' monovarietals, which showcase the region's ability to produce both fresh, approachable wines and more complex 'Superiore' versions. With its hilly terrain, favorable sun exposure, and clay-rich soils, the Todi DOC produces wines that are consistently harmonious, reflecting a long-standing tradition of quality-focused winemaking in the Tiber Valley.
