Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
About the wine
Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is a foundational white wine denomination of the Abruzzo region, centered on the Trebbiano Abruzzese and Trebbiano Toscano varieties. Historically significant and deeply rooted in local tradition, the wine is produced across a vast territory spanning the provinces of Chieti, L'Aquila, Pescara, and Teramo. The region's unique geography—characterized by the interplay between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine massifs of Gran Sasso and Maiella—creates significant diurnal temperature shifts and favorable ventilation, essential for developing the wine's characteristic aromatic profile. The base wine is typically straw-yellow in color, offering delicate floral and fruity notes with a signature, elegant almond-like finish. While the base typology is fresh and approachable, the denomination also encompasses specific sub-zones (such as Terre di Chieti) that allow for more structured 'Superiore' and 'Riserva' versions. The wine is known for its versatility, ranging from dry to slightly off-dry, and remains a benchmark for quality white wine production in Central Italy.
