Valdamato
About the wine
The Valdamato IGT covers a specific area in the province of Catanzaro, Calabria, centered around the Amato river valley. This denomination is highly versatile, allowing for the production of white, red, and rosato wines in various styles, including frizzante, spumante, passito, and novello. The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate with sedimentary soils and alluvial deposits from the river, which historically supported viticulture in the area. The disciplinare permits a wide range of both indigenous and international grape varieties, provided they are authorized for cultivation in the Calabria region. Producers are required to maintain specific organoleptic standards, and the IGT is characterized by a blend of traditional viticultural practices and modern winemaking techniques. The production zone encompasses seven municipalities, including Lamezia Terme, where the landscape transitions from coastal plains to hilly and mountainous terrain.
