Valdadige Terradeiforti
About the wine
Valdadige Terradeiforti is a niche DOC spanning the border of the Veneto and Trentino regions along the Adige River valley. The appellation is defined by its rugged, canyon-like landscape and unique siliceous, stony soils that historically protected native vines from phylloxera. The denomination is best known for two rare, indigenous red varieties: Enantio and Casetta (also known as 'Foja Tonda'). These produce wines with a distinctively 'wild' character, marked by deep color, firm tannins, and spicy, dark-fruit profiles, often requiring significant aging to harmonize. The DOC also includes Pinot Grigio, which benefits from the valley's significant diurnal temperature shifts to retain freshness and aromatic complexity. The wines are characterized by their structural integrity and strong link to the historical 'Terra dei Forti'—a valley dotted with medieval castles that served as a vital corridor between the Mediterranean and the Alps.
