Arborea
About the wine
The Arborea DOC, established in the province of Oristano, Sardinia, represents a unique viticultural history rooted in the 1930s land reclamation projects. The appellation focuses on two primary varieties: Sangiovese, which produces ruby-red wines and fresh, sapid rosés, and Trebbiano (Romagnolo and/or Toscano), which yields delicate, straw-yellow whites, including a frizzante version. The production area is characterized by diverse geological formations, ranging from volcanic and basaltic plateaus to alluvial plains and sandy coastal soils near the Tirso river. These varied terrains, combined with a Mediterranean climate tempered by coastal winds, allow for a slow, steady ripening of the grapes. The resulting wines are noted for their freshness and harmony, reflecting a long-standing local tradition of viticulture that has adapted these non-indigenous varieties to the specific Sardinian terroir. The DOC strictly regulates yields and prohibits aging descriptors like 'Riserva', emphasizing the immediate, approachable, and terroir-driven character of the wines.
