Romangia
About the wine
The Romangia IGT covers a historic viticultural area in northern Sardinia, encompassing the municipalities of Castelsardo, Osilo, Sennori, Sorso, and Valledoria in the province of Sassari. The region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate, hilly terrain, and diverse geological substrates including sedimentary and volcanic rocks. Viticulture here has ancient roots, with archaeological evidence of wine production dating back to the Mycenaean era. The IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante, novello, and sweet passito or late-harvest wines. The production is defined by traditional Sardinian grape varieties, excluding specific iconic regional grapes from varietal labeling requirements. The area benefits from maritime influence and significant diurnal temperature variations, which contribute to the distinct organoleptic profiles of the wines. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation methods and strict yield controls to maintain quality.
