Mandrolisai
About the wine
Mandrolisai is a distinctive DOC from central Sardinia, centered on a unique blend of Bovale Sardo, Cannonau, and Monica. Produced in the rugged, high-altitude terrain of the Nuoro and Oristano provinces, these wines are defined by their deep ruby color, vinous bouquet, and a characteristic, slightly bitter finish. The blend relies on the structure of Bovale Sardo (locally known as Muristellu), complemented by the fruit-forward nature of Cannonau and the softness of Monica. The wines are typically dry and sapid, reflecting the granitic and schistous soils of the region. A 'Superiore' typology exists for wines aged at least two years, including one in wood, which enhances their complexity and elegance. The Mandrolisai DOC represents a historical viticultural tradition that balances Mediterranean warmth with the cooler, high-altitude conditions of the island's interior, resulting in wines of notable character and regional identity.
