Carignano del Sulcis
About the wine
Carignano del Sulcis is a distinguished Sardinian DOC centered on the Carignano grape, which thrives in the unique, often sandy and wind-swept soils of the southwestern Sulcis region. The denomination is famous for its ancient, ungrafted 'alberello' (bush-trained) vines, some of which are among the oldest in Europe. The wines are characterized by their deep ruby color, intense vinous aromas, and a robust, harmonious structure. The DOC offers a range of styles, from fresh rosato and novello to the more complex, age-worthy 'Superiore' and 'Riserva' versions, as well as a sweet 'Passito'. The influence of the Mediterranean climate, combined with the expertise of local producers and the historical guidance of renowned enologists, has elevated these wines to international acclaim, known for their warmth, persistence, and distinctively savory profile.
