Marmilla
About the wine
The Marmilla IGT covers a historical region in central-southern Sardinia, spanning municipalities in the provinces of Medio Campidano and Oristano. The area is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers, and a landscape of rolling hills and alluvial plains. The IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante and novello versions. Production is based on traditional Sardinian viticultural practices, often utilizing the alberello (bush vine) system to manage the warm, arid conditions. The disciplinare is highly permissive regarding varietal composition, allowing for any grape variety authorized for cultivation in the Sardinia region. Wines must meet specific minimum alcohol levels and analytical standards, reflecting the distinct pedoclimatic conditions of the Marmilla territory, which has a long history of viticulture dating back to the Nuragic period.
