Nasco di Cagliari
About the wine
Nasco di Cagliari is a historic Sardinian DOC that showcases the unique Nasco grape, an ancient variety believed to derive its name from the Latin 'muscus' (musk) due to its delicate, floral, and musky aromatic profile. The appellation covers a vast, geologically diverse area across the provinces of Cagliari, Carbonia-Iglesias, Medio Campidano, and Oristano. The wines are produced in both dry and sweet styles, with the 'Liquoroso' and 'Liquoroso Riserva' versions representing the most traditional expressions. These wines are characterized by their golden-to-amber hues, intense aromas of honey, dried fruits, and Mediterranean scrub, and a velvety, persistent palate. The production allows for light drying of the grapes on the vine or mats, emphasizing the concentration of flavors. With a minimum alcohol content of 13.5% for the base wine and 17.5% for the fortified versions, Nasco di Cagliari remains a refined, niche specialty of the island, deeply rooted in local viticultural heritage.
