Nurra
About the wine
The Nurra IGT covers a historic viticultural area in northwestern Sardinia, specifically within the province of Sassari. The region is characterized by a diverse landscape ranging from Paleozoic metamorphic hills and Mesozoic limestone formations to the gently undulating plains near Alghero and Porto Torres. The climate is distinctly Mediterranean, mitigated by sea breezes, with hot, dry summers and moderate annual rainfall. This environment, combined with a long-standing viticultural tradition dating back to the Mycenaean era and reinforced by the 14th-century Carta de Logu, allows for the production of a wide range of wines. The IGT permits white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and novello styles, which must be produced from grape varieties authorized for cultivation in the Sardinia region. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation and vinification practices, ensuring that the resulting wines reflect the specific pedoclimatic conditions of the Nurra territory.
