Ogliastra
About the wine
The Ogliastra IGT covers a geographically diverse territory in east-central Sardinia, stretching from the Gennargentu mountains to the Tyrrhenian coast. This region has a deep-rooted viticultural history dating back to the Nuragic period, with archaeological evidence of wine production found in Triei. The climate is generally warm-temperate, though it varies significantly with altitude, ranging from coastal Mediterranean conditions to cooler mountainous zones. The IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante and novello versions. Production is based on grape varieties authorized for cultivation in the Sardinia region. While the iconic Cannonau is the most prominent red variety, the area is also noted for its diverse indigenous white grapes. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation methods, including terraced vineyards on steep slopes, which are essential to the region's historical identity and unique terroir.
