Provincia di Nuoro
About the wine
The Provincia di Nuoro IGT covers a vast, geologically diverse area of central-eastern Sardinia, stretching from the Tyrrhenian coast to the Gennargentu mountains. This region is characterized by complex soils—ranging from granite and metamorphic rocks to limestone and basalt—and a temperate climate with significant altitude variations. The IGT allows for the production of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and novello styles. The viticultural history of the area is ancient, with archaeological evidence of winemaking dating back to 1,300 B.C. and strong historical ties to indigenous grape varieties. The disciplinare is highly permissive regarding grape composition, allowing any variety authorized for the Sardinia region, provided they are of the appropriate color. The wines are noted for their ability to balance alcohol with high acidity, a trait historically attributed to the region's elevated vineyard sites and traditional cultivation methods.
