Tharros
About the wine
The Tharros IGT covers a vast area within the province of Oristano in Sardinia, a region defined by complex geological diversity ranging from volcanic and basaltic plateaus to alluvial plains formed by the Tirso river. Viticulture here has ancient roots, dating back to the Nuragic era, and remains a central pillar of the local rural identity. The IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante and novello versions. The climate is distinctly Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters, with maritime influence providing consistent humidity. The disciplinare is highly permissive regarding grape varieties, allowing any grape authorized for cultivation in the Sardinia region, provided they are vinified within the designated Oristano territory. The wines are noted for their balanced chemical-physical profiles and distinct organoleptic characteristics derived from the specific pedoclimatic conditions of the Oristano landscape.

The landscape is varied, featuring volcanic and basaltic soils in the north and east, and deep alluvial, sandy, or clay-rich soils (locally known as 'Bennaxi' and 'Gregori') in the plains and coastal areas near the Sinis peninsula.
