Valle del Tirso
About the wine
The Valle del Tirso IGT covers a sub-plain area in the Oristano province of Sardinia, extending along the Tirso River toward the Gulf of Oristano. Viticulture in this region dates back to the Nuragic era, with a long-standing tradition of utilizing diverse soil types, ranging from alluvial 'Bennaxi' deposits to clay-rich 'Gregori' soils and sandy coastal areas. The climate is distinctly Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters, with maritime influence providing consistent humidity. The IGT is highly permissive, allowing for the production of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and novello styles. Producers may use any grape variety authorized for cultivation in the Sardinia region. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional viticultural practices and specific yield limits to ensure quality, reflecting the historical and cultural identity of the Oristano viticultural landscape.
