Valli di Porto Pino
About the wine
The Valli di Porto Pino IGT covers a production area in the Sulcis region of southwestern Sardinia, spanning several municipalities in the provinces of Carbonia-Iglesias and Cagliari. The region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers, and diverse soil compositions ranging from granite and limestone to alluvial deposits. Viticulture here has ancient roots, dating back to Phoenician-Punic times, with a significant historical influence from the Spanish era, which introduced varieties like Carignano. The IGT allows for the production of white, red, and rosato wines, including frizzante and novello styles. The disciplinare is highly permissive regarding grape varieties, allowing any grape suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, provided they are registered in the national vine variety catalog. The wines are known for their strong territorial identity, shaped by traditional alberello training systems and the specific pedoclimatic conditions of the Sulcis area.
