Colline di Levanto
About the wine
The Colline di Levanto DOC represents the viticultural heritage of the coastal hills in the province of La Spezia, Liguria. This appellation encompasses white, Vermentino-based, red, and novello wines, all reflecting the rugged, terraced landscape overlooking the Mediterranean. The white wines are typically blends of Vermentino, Albarola, and Bosco, characterized by their salinity, freshness, and delicate floral aromatics. The reds, led by Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, offer a medium-bodied, harmonious profile. The region's siliceous-clay soils and maritime climate impart a distinct mineral quality to the wines, which are traditionally crafted for relatively early consumption. The DOC serves as a vital tool for preserving local viticultural traditions, including the use of the 'pergoletta ligure' training system, and emphasizes the deep historical connection between the land and its native grape varieties, eschewing international cultivars in favor of regional identity.
