Langhe
About the wine
The Langhe DOC is a versatile and expansive appellation in Piedmont, designed to encompass the diverse viticultural landscape of the Langhe hills. Unlike more restrictive DOCGs in the region, the Langhe DOC allows for a wide array of varietal expressions, including both indigenous grapes like Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and Nascetta, as well as international varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This flexibility enables producers to showcase specific terroirs or experiment with blends that fall outside the strict requirements of neighboring DOCGs. The wines range from crisp, fresh whites and vibrant reds to complex passito dessert wines. The hilly terrain, characterized by calcareous and siliceous soils, provides an ideal environment for these varied grapes. The DOC is particularly notable for its ability to accommodate 'vigna' (vineyard) designations, allowing for high-quality, site-specific bottlings that reflect the unique character of the Langhe's diverse microclimates.
