Rossese di Dolceacqua
About the wine
Rossese di Dolceacqua, also known simply as Dolceacqua, is a distinctive red wine from the extreme western coast of Liguria, in the province of Imperia. Produced primarily from the indigenous Rossese grape, this wine is celebrated for its unique profile, which stands out among coastal Italian reds. It typically presents a ruby red color that evolves toward garnet with age, offering an intense, delicate vinous bouquet and a palate characterized by softness, warmth, and aromatic complexity. The production area is defined by steep, terraced vineyards in the Nervia and Roia valleys, where the maritime influence and specific soil compositions—ranging from sandy to marly—create a singular terroir. The appellation allows for a 'Superiore' designation, which requires higher alcohol levels and extended aging, reflecting the wine's potential for elegance and longevity. With a history dating back to the 13th century, the Rossese di Dolceacqua remains a rare and authentic expression of its rugged, sun-drenched landscape.
