Contea di Sclafani
About the wine
Contea di Sclafani (or Valledolmo-Contea di Sclafani) is a Sicilian DOC established in 1996, covering a unique, high-altitude viticultural area in the island's interior. Spanning parts of the Palermo, Caltanissetta, and Agrigento provinces, the region is characterized by significant diurnal temperature shifts and hilly terrain, which delay grape ripening compared to coastal Sicily. This results in wines with balanced acidity and refined aromatic profiles. The white wines are dominated by Catarratto (min 95%), while the reds are crafted from Nero d'Avola and Perricone. The appellation includes standard, Riserva, and Vendemmia Tardiva typologies, the latter showcasing the region's potential for late-harvest styles. The wines are known for their structural harmony, with the reds often displaying spicy, fruity notes and the whites offering sapid, elegant characteristics.
