Sicilia
About the wine
The Sicilia DOC is a broad, island-wide denomination encompassing the entire territory of the Sicily region. Established to provide a unified quality framework for the island's diverse viticultural landscape, it covers an extensive range of styles, including white, red, rosato, and sparkling wines, as well as specialized categories like vendemmia tardiva and passito. The DOC is highly flexible, allowing for both traditional regional blends and a wide array of monovarietal wines, ranging from native grapes like Nero d’Avola, Grillo, and Carricante to international varieties such as Syrah and Chardonnay. This versatility reflects the island's varied microclimates and soils, from coastal plains to high-altitude volcanic slopes. The regulation emphasizes strict control over yields and production methods, ensuring that whether the wine is a fresh, aromatic white or a structured, age-worthy red, it maintains the distinct character and quality associated with Sicilian terroir.
