About the wine

The Friuli Isonzo DOC, also known as Isonzo del Friuli, covers a diverse viticultural area in the province of Gorizia, characterized by unique alluvial soils and a climate influenced by both the Adriatic Sea and the cold Bora wind. This appellation is notable for its extensive range of varietal wines, spanning from crisp whites like Friulano, Sauvignon, and Pinot Grigio to structured reds such as Merlot, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, and Schioppettino. The DOC also permits sparkling (spumante) and frizzante styles, as well as a specialized 'Vendemmia Tardiva' (late harvest) category. The wines are generally defined by their aromatic clarity, balanced acidity, and distinct regional character, reflecting the gravelly, well-drained soils of the Isonzo river valley. The production regulations emphasize site-specific quality, excluding overly humid or flat alluvial lands to ensure the grapes reach optimal maturity and expression.

The production area is located in the province of Gorizia, encompassing all or parts of the territories of communes such as Romans d'Isonzo, Gradisca d'Isonzo, Villesse, San Pier d'Isonzo, Turriaco, Medea, Moraro, Mariano del Friuli, Cormons, Capriva del Friuli, San Lorenzo Isontino, Monfalcone, Mossa, Gorizia, Fogliano di Redipuglia, Farra d'Isonzo, Savogna d'Isonzo, Sagrado, Ronchi dei Legionari, San Canzian d'Isonzo, and Staranzano.
