Prosecco
About the wine
Prosecco DOC is a widely recognized Italian sparkling wine denomination covering a vast area across the Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions. Primarily based on the Glera grape, the appellation produces 'Spumante' (fully sparkling) and 'Frizzante' (semi-sparkling) styles, as well as a 'Rosé' version introduced in recent years. The wines are characterized by their fresh, aromatic profile, typically displaying notes of white fruit and flowers, with a bright, straw-yellow color. The production process, primarily utilizing the autoclave method (Martinotti-Charmat), ensures the preservation of the grape's delicate primary aromas. The DOC allows for a small percentage of blending grapes, including Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, and Pinot Nero, to enhance complexity. Prosecco is celebrated for its approachable, vibrant character, making it a global benchmark for quality sparkling wine that balances tradition with modern winemaking precision.

Production & aging
The production area spans nine provinces across the Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions in northeastern Italy: Belluno, Gorizia, Padova, Pordenone, Treviso, Trieste, Udine, Venezia, and Vicenza. The landscape is predominantly flat with some hilly areas, benefiting from a temperate climate protected by the Alps to the north and moderated by the Adriatic Sea to the south.
