Rosazzo
About the wine
Rosazzo DOCG represents the pinnacle of white wine production in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, centered around the historic Abbey of Rosazzo in the province of Udine. This prestigious denomination is defined by its unique 'ponca' soil—a fragile, eocenic flysch of marl and sandstone that imparts distinct minerality and structure to the wines. The blend is strictly regulated, requiring a minimum of 50% Friulano, complemented by Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, and a small portion of Ribolla Gialla. These wines are celebrated for their elegance, complexity, and longevity, often described as having a silky texture, refined floral and fruity aromatics, and a harmonious, dry palate. With a history of viticulture dating back over a millennium, Rosazzo is a testament to the synergy between the region's mild, sea-influenced climate and the meticulous human stewardship of the land. The wine is released only after a significant aging period, ensuring it reaches the market with the depth and balance expected of a high-quality Italian cru.

This area is situated in the southern part of the Friuli Colli Orientali, characterized by unique eocenic flysch soils known locally as 'ponca', which provide excellent drainage and specific mineral profiles essential for the wine's identity.
