Liguria di Levante
About the wine
The Liguria di Levante IGT covers the entire province of La Spezia in eastern Liguria. This area is characterized by a diverse landscape ranging from steep, terraced coastal slopes—similar to the famous Cinque Terre—to the more accessible alluvial plains of the Val di Magra and Val di Vara. The climate is Mediterranean, influenced by the proximity to the sea and the Apennine mountains, which creates favorable conditions for viticulture. The IGT allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, rosato, and passito. The production is deeply rooted in historical traditions, with the Vermentino grape being the most iconic variety of the region. The wines are generally noted for their moderate acidity, vibrant colors, and intense floral and fruity aromatics. The disciplinare emphasizes the role of local human intervention in maintaining the landscape through traditional terracing and modern viticultural practices.
