About the wine

The Mamertino di Milazzo DOC, often referred to simply as Mamertino, is a historic Sicilian appellation centered in the province of Messina. Its roots date back to antiquity, with a tradition revived in modern times to showcase the unique terroir of the Tyrrhenian coast. The wines are produced from a diverse range of local varieties, including Grillo, Ansonica, Inzolia, and Catarratto for the whites, and Nero d'Avola (Calabrese) blended with Nocera for the reds. The production zone benefits from a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes, which helps maintain balanced acidity and elegant aromatic profiles. The DOC includes both standard and Riserva typologies, with the latter requiring a minimum of 24 months of aging, including at least six months in wood. These wines are characterized by their structural balance, ranging from fresh, fruit-forward whites to full-bodied, harmonious reds that reflect the specific alluvial soils of the Messina hills.
