Monreale
About the wine
The Monreale DOC, established in 2000, encompasses a historic viticultural area in the province of Palermo, Sicily. Rooted in the ancient lands once managed by the powerful Archbishopric of Monreale, the denomination focuses on traditional Sicilian varieties, emphasizing the region's unique orographic and climatic conditions. The production zone, situated between 300 and 600 meters above sea level, benefits from well-structured soils and a Mediterranean climate that favors high-quality viticulture. The DOC covers a diverse range of wines: white wines based on Catarratto, red and rosato wines centered on Perricone, and a specific Syrah-based category. The wines are characterized by their structural balance, ranging from fresh, fruity rosatos to complex, structured reds that may be aged to achieve 'Riserva' status. The regulation mandates specific viticultural practices, including traditional training systems and controlled yields, ensuring that the final products reflect the distinct terroir of the Sicilian hinterland.
