Salemi
About the wine
The Salemi IGT, established in 1995, covers the administrative territory of the municipality of Salemi in the province of Trapani, Sicily. The area is characterized by hilly terrain with silico-calcareous soils and a Mediterranean climate, featuring mild winters and hot, dry summers. These conditions, combined with a long-standing viticultural history dating back to Greek colonization, support the production of white, red, and rosato wines. The IGT allows for various styles, including frizzante and novello, with specific regulations for varietal labeling. White wines are primarily based on indigenous Sicilian grapes like Catarratto and Ansonica, while red and rosato wines utilize red grape varieties authorized for the Sicily region. The production emphasizes traditional cultivation and vinification techniques, resulting in balanced, aromatic wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Trapani hinterland.
