Vittoria
About the wine
The Vittoria DOC, established in 2005, represents a historic viticultural area in southeastern Sicily spanning the provinces of Ragusa, Caltanissetta, and Catania. The denomination is deeply rooted in the region's ancient winemaking tradition, dating back to Greek colonization. The wines are defined by the interplay between the indigenous Nero d'Avola (Calabrese) and the aromatic, elegant Frappato, which together create the signature 'Vittoria Rosso' blend. The area's diverse topography—ranging from coastal plains to high hills—and its predominantly calcareous, iron-rich 'terra rossa' soils provide a unique environment that balances heat with significant diurnal temperature shifts. This results in wines that are typically dry, warm, and soft, with a distinctively fruity and floral profile. Beyond the flagship red blends, the DOC also covers varietal wines from Nero d'Avola, Frappato, and the white Inzolia (Ansonica), as well as a Novello style, all reflecting the Mediterranean climate and the specific pedoclimatic conditions of the 'Plaga Mesopotamium' between the Ippari and Dirillo rivers.

Production & aging
The production zone covers a vast area in southeastern Sicily across three provinces: Ragusa (Vittoria, Comiso, Acate, Chiaramonte Gulfi, Santa Croce Camerina, and part of Ragusa), Caltanissetta (parts of Niscemi, Gela, Riesi, Butera, and Mazzarino), and Catania (parts of Caltagirone, Licodia Eubea, and Mazzarrone). The landscape is characterized by a mix of coastal plains, medium hills, and high hills, with soils predominantly composed of limestone, sand, and clay.
