Atina
About the wine
The Atina DOC, located in the Lazio region, is a distinctive appellation centered on the Val di Comino. It is notable for its focus on international varieties, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot for its red wines, and Semillon for its white wines. The red wines are characterized by their structure, balanced tannins, and a profile that often features fruity notes with occasional herbaceous undertones, while the Riserva versions offer increased complexity and longevity through mandatory wood aging. The Semillon, a rarity in this part of Italy, produces fresh, sapid, and persistent white wines. The area's unique microclimate, characterized by significant rainfall and temperate conditions, combined with calcareous-marly soils, provides an ideal environment for these grapes. The DOC mandates specific viticultural practices, including density requirements and yield limitations, to ensure quality, resulting in wines that are recognized for their harmony and distinct regional identity.
