About the wine

Cesanese di Olevano Romano is a distinctive red wine appellation from the Lazio region, centered on the historic hills of Olevano Romano and parts of Genazzano. The wine is primarily crafted from the indigenous Cesanese di Affile and Cesanese Comune grapes, which must constitute at least 85% of the blend. These varieties thrive in the area's unique volcanic and limestone-rich soils, benefiting from significant diurnal temperature shifts that promote slow, complete phenolic maturation. The resulting wines are noted for their ruby-red color, floral and dark fruit aromatics, and a structured, harmonious palate. The DOC covers a diverse range of styles, including dry, amabile, and sweet versions, as well as 'Superiore' and 'Riserva' designations that require longer aging and higher alcohol content. With a viticultural history dating back to Roman times, this appellation represents a significant expression of Lazio's terroir, emphasizing traditional cultivation methods and a commitment to quality that has been refined over centuries.
