Lazio
About the wine
The Lazio IGT covers the entire administrative region of Lazio, a territory defined by diverse geological formations including volcanic hills, coastal plains, and Apennine mountains. With a viticultural history dating back to the Etruscans and Romans, the region benefits from a Mediterranean and temperate climate, with vineyards situated between 20 and 1,000 meters above sea level. The IGT is highly permissive, allowing for a wide range of wine styles including white, red, and rosato, as well as frizzante, spumante, passito, and late-harvest versions. Producers may specify one or more grape varieties on the label, provided they are authorized for cultivation in the Lazio region. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation methods and the use of indigenous varieties like Malvasia del Lazio, Bellone, and Cesanese, reflecting the region's long-standing commitment to quality viticulture across its varied pedoclimatic zones.
