Castelli Romani
About the wine
The Castelli Romani DOC covers a diverse range of wines—white, red, and rosato—produced in the historic volcanic hills southeast of Rome. This appellation, deeply rooted in Roman history, encompasses a landscape shaped by the Colli Albani, where mineral-rich volcanic soils and a Mediterranean climate provide an ideal environment for viticulture. The white wines are primarily based on Malvasia and Trebbiano, resulting in fresh, aromatic, and often floral profiles that can be produced as still or frizzante. The reds, crafted from a blend of Cesanese, Merlot, Montepulciano, Nero Buono, and Sangiovese, offer a balanced, rounded structure with persistent vinous notes. The DOC is characterized by its accessibility and historical significance, reflecting a long-standing tradition of supplying Rome with quality table wines. The regulation allows for various styles, including amabile and novello, ensuring a versatile expression of this unique Lazio terroir.
