Bianco Capena
About the wine
Bianco Capena is a historic white wine denomination from the Lazio region, north of Rome. Rooted in an area with ancient viticultural traditions dating back to the Etruscans and Romans, the wine is produced from a blend of Malvasia and Trebbiano varieties, with smaller contributions from Bellone and Bombino. The production zone, characterized by volcanic and sedimentary soils and a Mediterranean climate, yields a wine that is typically straw-yellow in color with a delicate, aromatic profile. On the palate, it is known for being fresh and balanced, ranging from dry to slightly off-dry (abboccato). While the denomination has faced historical challenges regarding commercial visibility, it remains a testament to the specific terroir of the hills between the Tiber Valley and the Sabatini volcanic complex. The wine is produced in both standard and 'Superiore' versions, the latter requiring a higher minimum alcohol content.
